Learn About Michelle
Raised bilingual in Russian and English as a first-generation American, soprano Michelle Ravitsky received her Master of Music degree at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music and her Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she was awarded the Pi Kappa Lambda Prize for musicianship. This season, Michelle is thrilled to be singing in the ensemble of La fille du régiment with Bel Cantanti Opera Company in the fall and performing with pianist Lisa Weiss in concert in the spring.
After a summer as an Apprentice Artist with OPERA San Antonio, performing in outreach opera scenes as Gretel from Hansel and Gretel and Mabel from The Pirates of Penzance, Michelle sang the role of Dew Fairy in OSA’s production of Hansel and Gretel in the 2023-2024 season. Operatic highlights include Papagena in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Morgana in Handel’s Alcina, Musetta in Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème, and Monica in Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Medium with Northwestern Opera Theater. Michelle has also performed Flora in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw and Barbarina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro as well as scenes as Norina (Don Pasquale) and Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), all with Oberlin Opera Theater. Michelle has also performed Alexis in Offenbach’s L’île de Tulipatan at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and Ersilia in Cimarosa’s Le astuzie Femminili with Oberlin in Italy.
In previous summers, Michelle was chosen as one of the participants for Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Vocal Academy, Taos Opera Institute, and performed in recital for the inaugural season of the Padanaram Chamber Music Festival. She has performed in masterclasses with Marlena Malas, Margo Garrett, Justin Kim, Gerald Martin Moore, and Bradley Moore. In 2021, Michelle was awarded First Place of the Central Region NATS Competition. Michelle is an alumni of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the Washington National Opera Institute.
Alongside performing, Michelle is a passionate music educator and arts administrator, with hopes of helping her students find their unique voice and creating a more welcoming and inclusive landscape for all artists. Michelle teaches voice lessons both in-person and remotely, and is the Operations Manager for the Children’s Chorus of Washington.
